Shelley's Seashells Down by the Seashore!

Last August, I briefly profiled an upcoming seashore cottage project

by Shelley Versteeg-Smit, the

beautiful and talented interior designer

and owner of Fishtrap Creek Interiors in Lynden, WA.

Here's a little tour of the fabulous

makeover of her 650-square-foot cottage by the sea.

The pale palette is enhanced with touches of turquoise,

creating a soothing respite for Shelley and

her family.

Do you recognize the Edwardian fireplace-turned-headboard?!

Shelley's collection of seashells take residence in the cubbies,

echoing the gorgeous seashells coverlet on the bed!

. . . a closer look at the mantle/headboard, snuggled perfectly beneath the

cottage window--ah, just right!!

Shelley's clever use of space in this tiny-but-lovely and

functional kitchen showcases her talent as a professional designer.

your cottage from Ormolulu . . . I'm honored and

totally love the results!!!

Meet me this Saturday & Sunday, April 10 and 11, at the big and funky

Mt. Vernon Garage Sale, Antiques & More event.

I'll be in BUILDING B - NORTH ENTRANCE to the Fairgrounds.

Some "new" things, some mark-downs . . . all good stuff!!

Like any sale, what you'll unearth varies with each show--this one is about

the hunt . . . there are always surprises!

While it's a good idea to get there early on Saturday (8:00 AM),

many vendors (including Ormolulu) restock

on Sunday--so come on by anytime!!!

EGGSACTLY RIGHT!!!

It's "EGG WEEK" on Serena's blog at The Farm Chicks, so here's

a few of my favorite egg-related photos.

My Grandma Foshee, the old truck, the Oklahoma countryside, and

one of her earlier cakes made with lots of butter & eggs, of course!!

She became a professional baker--an early "entrepreneur" before

that word was part of the economic landscape.

Grandma made the most AMAZING goodies out of her home

and sold them to eagerly waiting customers:

hand-dipped chocolates, fudges, divinity, peanut brittle, almond roca (best on

the planet!), marshmallows (moist & gooey!),

wedding cakes (photos on another post).

Her back bedroom (unheated) was lined with shelves contained huge

glass jars filled with these goodies . . . you can imagine

what it was like to visit Grandma's house!!!!!

Here's a fantastic, very heavy, antique chocolate mold

with roosters!! (Grandma would have used this . . . . )

Yes, I repeat on these oat sacks, but aren't

they just fabulous with the roosters?!

Alabaster eggs look great on old silver (a few colored ones left too).

Rusty, old egg baskets and round bird cage.

YELLOW egg baskets (only 2 left)!!!

All this talk of eggs made me hungry, so here's a deviled egg from me to you.

I made them yesterday . . . and they are all gone now--YUMMY!!!

Lynden Show "post" post . . . .

Counting my blessings, the Lynden Show was a wonderful time!

I saw many cheerful, old friends and made a few new ones.

There were literally THOUSANDS of people who came to eat, visit and shop

for treasures.

I extend my "hand" in thanks to all the loyal customers who returned to

make purchases from Ormolulu!!

Not many highway letters & numbers left (had over 100!) . . . .

This unique oil pan with bail handle is going into a gentleman's

kitchen to hold towels . . . what a great idea & space saver!

Thank you judges for awarding me an Honorable Mention

for attractively displayed booth . . . always feels good to be recognized

for all the hard work!!

Aren't these the best oat sacks . . . pillows?

This darling 1950's turquoise patio set was front and center.

Still looking for just the right deck/patio to hang out on . . . .

The antique etching of the dogs and their master is

over 100 years old! Woof, woof . . . goodbye!

Found this darling antique pram at More Than Antiques in Lynden . . .

the perfect container for my collection of nautical charts (only 6 left!).

As Easter approaches in celebration of the ressurection, it's a

wonderful reminder of how we are renewed through faith,

no matter the trials we may face.

One thing is for sure, most everyone I know is

going through something that may be very

challenging and hard to understand.

But we are connected in our struggles and will triumph

in our efforts to remain humane, kind and forgiving.

Portland Expo was GREAT!

Portland Expo was gratifying in so many ways . . . lots of fun, good business,

great people, & continued percolating hope for a better economy!

It's always surprising what does (and especially does not) sell. These

gorgeous chandeliers are something I don't mind seeing

again and again--they make my space look like fantasy-land!

Found this great, vintage cemetary (closed??) sign at STARS!!

This couple is from the Portland Steampunk organization. I'm so frustrated that

I can't find

my notes for their names! You can see why I just HAD

to have a photo of them for you to see . . . great outfits, eh?!

Frenchie & Italian finds . . . still in my possession (I don't mind!!)

The best treasures of all: Debbie & Laurie of Worthy Goods!!

They were doing what I wanted to do: SHOPPING!!!

Another great couple . . . the "Roosevelts" . . . WOW!!!

THE BEST French zinc architectural salvage. Natalie snapped up the

galvanized pear basket from me (thank you, sweet girl!).

One of the funniest antique signs I've ever had . . . note the fireman's

name: "FRYAR"!!!!

Antique, French burlap "potash" bag . . . would make phenomenal pillow!!

The finest flow blue piece ever . . . hand-painted portrait on porcelain

charger (American Aesthetic Movement) C. 1910.

French gallery clock with mother-of-pearl inlay (going to live at my house for awhile).

My usual array of silverplate trays . . . the one in front has cherries on it!


I'm sorry to be so late in getting this blog update done, but I remained in

Portland longer than expected . . . and now I'm unpacking

and repacking for the Lynden Craft & Antique show, starting

this THURSDAY!!!!!
